Compact for a Balanced Budget Now!

There is only one plausible path to advancing a powerful federal balanced budget amendment from the states in as few as 12 months-that is the Compact for America approach.

The Compact for America approach involves forming an agreement among the states, with simple majority approval from Congress, to simplify and safeguard federal constitutional reform.

Just last session, the Compact for America approach to advancing a balanced budget amendment was passed by the States of Georgia and Alaska. The Compact for a Balanced Budget, as it is called, will soon organize an interstate commission to advance the ball nationally and in Washington.

The Compact for America effort has been endorsed by opinion leader George Will, judicial analyst and scholar Judge Andrew Napolitano, Fifth Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals senior judge Harold DeMoss, national radio personality Mike Church, senior fellow in constitutional studies and editor-in-chief of the Cato Supreme Court Review Ilya Shapiro of the Cato Institute and Dr. Kevin Gutzman, author of New York Times Best Seller James Madison and the Making of America.

Spearheaded by the work of constitutional scholar and litigator Nick Dranias, the Goldwater Institute, Heartland Institute, MacIver Institute, Pelican Institute, Georgia Public Policy Foundation and Alaska Policy Forum have been leading the education effort among nationally-known think tanks.

Most recently, the Federalist Society's prestigious "Engage" law journal published Dranias' legal analysis of the Compact for a Balanced Budget.

And the Compact effort is poised to explode on the legislative and grassroots scene in more than a dozen states in the coming session-kicked off by a huge "Liberty Amendment" symposium and dinner hosted by CFA and States United for a Balanced Budget at the Tucson Hilton El Conquistador on October 18!
