Lawrence Reed-President of the Foundation for Economic Education-Endorses Compact for a Balanced Bud
Compact for America proudly announces that the President of the most venerable think tank in the nation when it comes to economic theory - the Foundation for Economic Education (FEE) - has endorsed the Compact for a Balanced Budget!
Lawrence "Larry" Reed says:
"Don’t sit back and fret about runaway government. Get involved, take responsibility and help save the country. Support the Compact for America’s balanced budget amendment - easily the single best vehicle to stop the sin of spending recklessly today and burdening our children and grandchildren with the tab. Your conscience demands it!”
As President of FEE, Reed joins George Will, Judge Andrew Napolitano, Mike Church, and numerous statesmen in recognizing the unique power and plausibility of the Balanced Budget Amendment at the heart of the Compact - and also the unique power and plausibility of using an agreement among the states to advance constitutional amendments under Article V of the U.S. Constitution.
Soon, Reed will join the Council of Scholars of the Compact for America Educational Foundation, Inc., which just recently obtained its 501(c)(3) letter determination from the I.R.S., enabling it to receive deductible charitable donations.

The Foundation for Economic Education (FEE), one of the oldest free-market organizations in the United States, was founded in 1946 by Leonard E. Read to study and advance the freedom philosophy. During its long and illustrious history, FEE has published or hosted lectures by some of the finest minds of the modern age, including Ludwig von Mises, F.A. Hayek, Henry Hazlitt, Milton Friedman, James Buchanan, Vernon Smith, Israel Kirzner, Walter Williams, George Stigler, Frank Chodorov, John Chamberlain, F.A. “Baldy” Harper, William F. Buckley Jr., among many others.

Reed became president of FEE in 2008, after serving as chairman of its board of trustees in the 1990s and both writing and speaking for FEE since the late 1970s. Prior to becoming FEE’s president, he served for twenty years as president of the Mackinac Center for Public Policy in Midland, Michigan. He also taught Economics full-time from 1977 to 1984 at Northwood University in Michigan and chaired its Department of Economics from 1982 to 1984 . . .
A champion for liberty, Reed has authored over 1,000 newspaper columns and articles, dozens of articles in magazines and journals in the U. S. and abroad. His writings have appeared in The Wall Street Journal, Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, Baltimore Sun, Detroit News and Detroit Free Press, among many others. “He has authored or co-authored seven books, including “A Republic—If We Can Keep It,” “Striking the Root: Essays on Liberty,” “The Great Hope,” and “Are We Good Enough For Liberty?” . . .
Reed has delivered at least 75 speeches annually in the past 30 years—in virtually every state and dozens of countries from Bulgaria to China to Bolivia. His best-known lectures include “Seven Principles of Sound Policy” and “Great Myths of the Great Depression”—both of which have been translated into more than a dozen languages and distributed worldwide.
His interests in political and economic affairs have taken him as a freelance journalist to 81 countries on six continents. He is a member of the prestigious Mont Pelerin Society and an advisor to numerous organizations around the world. He served for 15 years as a member of the board (and one term as president) of the State Policy Network. His numerous recognitions include the “Champion of Freedom” award from the Mackinac Center for Public Policy and the “Distinguished Alumni” award from Grove City College.
